About Us

MISSION

The Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado is dedicated to furthering the highest quality of Emergency Medical Services in the State of Colorado by assisting EMS providers to realize their potential through innovative life-long learning, goal driven advocacy, and promotion of EMS professionalism.

Advocacy – Communication – Education

ADVOCACY

As the only state organization dedicated Solely to EMS, EMSAC serves the EMS system. The association speaks with a unified voice to assure the best care for victims of trauma and those suffering from medical emergencies. The Colorado Legislature, the Prehospital Care Program office of the Colorado Dept. of Public Health and Environment, allied organizations such as the Colorado Search and Rescue Board and the American College of Emergency Physicians have all heard from EMSAC on many occasions.

When such organizations need the expertise and opinions of EMS professionals, they ask EMSAC. From position papers to legislation to public education, EMSAC is EMS in Colorado.

Whether it be a legislative committee considering the operation of emergency vehicles, the development of the Colorado trauma system, or the Prehospital Care Program planning the next ten year’s evolution of Colorado EMS, EMSAC offers the critical perspective of those who daily provide, manage and plan emergency care.

COMMUNICATION

The EMSAC Star newsletter is considered by many members to be one the most valuable association services. The EMSAC Star serves as a clearinghouse of the important Colorado-specific EMS information — it is the only source in the state for news and trends about professional EMS care in Colorado.

The Star features articles about new emergency medical procedures and research, a calendar of ongoing training events, updates on new or proposed changes in state EMS regulations, as well as opinion pieces about this young and evolving profession. It offers a column in which field EMTs and EMS agency managers can obtain answers to confusing medical, legal and management questions.

The EMSAC Members Update—EMU—is a monthly e-mail that carries timely and informative links to short-form articles and reports that are the latest in EMS research, seminars and classes, news stories, member benefits; as well as EMS management, operations and funding.

EDUCATION

EMSAC was founded to provide continuing education to meet the state required needs of EMTs. True to our history, we continue today. We co-produce the Colorado State EMS Conference, which incorporates the state’s oldest annual EMS training conference: the EMSAC Conference and Annual Meeting. Drawing members and nonmembers alike, it is the greatest value in EMS conferences in Colorado.

As the needs of Colorado EMS providers evolve, so do we. EMSAC works with local EMS agencies and regional EMS councils to bring to them outstanding emergency medical continuing education — seminars and courses difficult to do on a local scale. We sponsor or cosponsor specialty educational events with hospitals, allied associations and other EMS educators.
