New funds for rural Colorado agencies, such as EMS, providing health or health-related services

A new funding opportunity is available to support the information technology (IT) needs of rural organizations providing health services. The goals of this grant are to harmonize data-sharing capabilities, increase health information sharing, and advance health information exchange. Approved applications will expand HIE and EMR/EHR interoperability and connectivity, support data sharing, analytics, and IT infrastructure improvements, modernize IT systems and enable innovation in patient care amongst Public Health Agencies and EMS, and/or advance affordable care coordination and health outcomes.

Key Details:

  • Eligible Organizations: Rural Governmental Agencies, such as Local Public Health Agencies and Emergency Medical Service providers, primarily providing health or health-related services.
  • Maximum Award: Up to $1 million. Funds must be expended by June 30, 2026.
  • Application Period: September 15th through October 15th. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
  • Permitted Uses: Funding can be used for establishing HIE access, EHR transitions/upgrades, digitization of records, interoperability improvements, technical assistance for health IT, AI adoption, cybersecurity enhancements, and mobile integrated health programs.

Successful proposals will demonstrate:

  • Scalability
  • Leveraging existing resources
  • Positive community impact for rural Coloradans
  • Focus on new programs or health IT projects (not ongoing operating expenses)
