NEWS RELEASE: 2010 Shanaberger Award
Dr. F. Keith Battan to receive Lifetime Achievement Award from Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado

DENVER -The Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado is pleased to announce that Dr. F. Keith Battan will receive the C.J. Shanaberger Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Colorado EMS Awards Gala on May 14, 2010.

Dr. Battan was nominated for his outstanding contributions to EMS in Colorado over the past 30 years. Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s, he developed and guided the Pediatric Emergency Care Committee at the Emergency Medical and Trauma Services section of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. This committee helped set the standards by which EMT’s and Paramedics in Colorado treat pediatric patients. During the 90’s, Dr. Battan formed the Intermountain Regional EMS for Children Coordinating
Council (IRECC), which would become the guiding force nationally for the implementation of federal EMS for Children programs.

Dr. Battan has also represented the interests of pediatric emergency medicine as both member and chairman of the Colorado State Emergency Medical Trauma Advisory Council.  In addition, he served as a national faculty member for the
American Heart Association’s Pediatric Advanced Life Support program, and as a physician advisor for the development of the Denver Metro EMS Protocols.

Of his career and philosophy, Dr Battan says “I believe in helping kids grow up to be healthy and happy.” The award recognizes his career-spanning excellence at this.

Dr. Battan is a Pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente Colorado.
