Grand County Emergency Medical Services to be named Ambulance Service of the Year by the Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado
DENVER -The Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado is pleased to announce that Grand County EMS will receive the EMS Ambulance Service of the Year award at the 2010 Colorado EMS Awards Gala on May 14, 2010.
Celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year, Grand County EMS provides 911 and interfacility ambulance re-sponse to all of Grand County. While not responding to emergencies, the EMS professionals at Grand County EMS help teach low and no-cost CPR and First-Aid education to members of the public. The service has been a leader in providing quick access to Automatic External Defibrillators – devices that can save a life in the event of cardiac arrest and can be used with minimal training – by placing them in local Police and Sherriff’s cars and training officers in how to use them. The service also provides many services to local communities, including teaching an EMT-Basic class at the local high school, leading dissection classes in elementary schools, and helping with health fairs and local holiday celebrations.
Dr. Tim Bohlender, Medical Director at Granby Medical Center, tells us “GCEMS has never forgotten its roots, the reason it is here and that is for the benefit and service of the community. Without this ambulance service and the men and women that give so much of themselves, our community would be missing a vital element, the heartbeat of medical service, of community commitment and part of the foundation of Grand County.”
The service is attentive to the needs of the community it serves and has balanced the needs of people from towns, rural areas, and the often-busy Winter Park ski area. Grand County EMS’s motto is “Professional Care with a Personal Touch” and the service has proven that they live by this motto in all that they do.
The 2010 Colorado EMS Awards Gala will be held on May 14 2010 at the Denver Marriott South at Park Meadows. Registration and other information can be found at http://www.emsac.org/events. The spring awards are offered by the EMS Association of Colorado and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Emergency Medical and Trauma Services division.
